Interactive Sound Installation
‘SINK(ING)’ is a sound installation that aims to communicate the idea that water is finite. The project responds to the recent events of the Day Zero water crisis in Cape Town and its growing risk in neighbouring countries. The installation expresses the urgency of the situation despite its physical distance from a developed city like London, as well as
to illustrate the impact an individual can have on the wider issue of water scarcity. The installation consists of a sink that plays the song Denden by Sugai Ken. The song incorporates Ken’s field recordings of dripping water, and is inspired by the rural landscape of his home in Kanagawa. When a user twists the tap on the sink, the song is distorted.
